IRONMAN announced that the race previously known as Revolution3Triathlon Maine will now be operated as an IRONMAN 70.3 event, the first-ever in Maine. The race will take place in Old Orchard Beach on Sunday, August 27, 2017.

“We are pleased to add the landmark location of Old Orchard Beach to our IRONMAN 70.3 race series and look forward to growing the event in this historic beach community,” said Jeff Edwards, Vice President of Operations for IRONMAN.

Well recognized for its pier, which stretches out nearly 500 feet over the Atlantic Ocean, Old Orchard Beach is a beautiful seven-mile strip of sandy beach that has been a family destination for more than 170 years. Welcoming families and tourists alike, the beach plays host to weekly fireworks and concerts, and offers fishing, whale watch tours, top-notch golf and more.

The IRONMAN 70.3 Maine triathlon begins with a 1.2-mile swim gracing the shores of the iconic beach. The 56-mile bike course starts out flat and fast before taking athletes through a series of rolling hills in the surrounding Maine farmland and countryside. Tall pine trees provide shade over much of the course, as it winds through Saco, Dayton, Lyman, Waterboro, Hollis, and Old Orchard Beach. The 13.1-mile out-and-back run course is flat and provides sweeping views of the Scarborough Marsh and includes a portion over the storied Eastern Trail with a finish line in downtown Old Orchard Beach.

“Our entire team is excited about the opportunity to bring one of the largest sporting events to Old Orchard Beach. This community has it all—a gorgeous beach with an incredible pier, several activities within walking distance of the finish line and expo, and one of the friendliest w England communities you will find,” said Charlie Patten, Owner and Founder of Revolution3Triathlon. “If you love Lobster, Clam Chowder and the beautiful Maine coastline, then this is a race you won’t want to miss!”

IRONMAN 70.3 Maine will offer 35 slots to the 2018 IRONMAN 70.3 World Championship taking place on September 1 and 2 in Nelson Mandela Bay, South Africa.

General registration for IRONMAN 70.3 Maine will open Novemeber 15, 2016 at 12:00 p.m. ET at www.ironman.com/maine70.3. Athlete inquiries may be directed to maine70.3@ironman.com.

My Favorite Place to Live

In the world there are many places to live like Hawaii, the Alps, Yellowstone and Lake Louis in Canada.  I would like to live in all places.  But, the place  I would really want to live is Ocean Park, Maine.  I would want to live there because my grand parents have a Bed and Breakfast there, the beach is less than a block away, and the shuffleboard courts are right down the street.

The BillowHouse is the name of the Bed & Breakfast that my grandparents own in Ocean Park.  If I lived in Ocean Park I could help them in the Winters  by cleaning the rooms.  Another great thing about BillowHouse is that my grandmother makes superb food. The best reason for liking BillowHouse is that they have the nicest rooms, especially the one with the hot tub.

I hate always driving an hour and half to go to the beach. Don’t you? But if you lived in Ocean Park you could be closer than a block away from it.  In Ocean Park you can go tot he beach anytime you want with your parents permission.  The water is a tad chilly but after a long, difficult day it feels great. Also the sand makes an excellent spot to play sports like volleyball and football.

If you like to play shuffleboard Ocean Park is the place to be because it’s only one block away.  If you haven’t played shuffleboard Ocean Park is the place to be because lots of people can teach it to you. I love shuffleboard!!!! In the summer there is a tournament every Thursday and if I could drive I would be up every Thursday..  After playing you can always stop to get something to drink at the Variety Store.

There are many great places to live on Earth it just depends on you personality.  I know I didn’t pick the flashiest place in the world  like some of my friends but it’s one of the places I love most, small, old, Ocean Park.  I Love it because the beach is close, the shuffleboard is right down the street, and my grandparents have a bed and breakfast there. I love Ocean Park!!!

Excellant Get-A-Way

After a couple of years away, we were able to return to the BillowHouse in Ocean Park, ME.

You can’t ask for any better place to vacation no matter what time of the year.

The BillowHouse is located right on the beach. What a wonderful way to wake up each day

to the sound of the tide rolling in and seeing the ocean as you look out your window.

The newly renovated Saco Bay room is awesome.

We would highly recommend the BillowHouse to anyone. It will not disappoint.

The staff is very welcoming and hospitable. Breakfast is included in the cost of your stay.

Be sure to check this place out!!

“Home Away From Home”

Reviewed August 25, 2013

Been coming to the Billow House with my Mother and Grandmother for ages,

recently my boyfriend has also been accompanying us. I love everything about it.

When I fantasize about owning my own B&B this is exactly what I picture.

Room Tip: We’ve stayed in the little room facing the sea a lot  but I’ve also
stayed in the motel part and it’s just as lovely.” (JessGuyon)

Our Annual Honeymoon

August 29, 2013

We have been coming to Ocean Park for twenty years, and have stayed in most

accomodations over the years, but once we found Billowhouse we knew

we were home! Mary and Judi are warm, welcoming, and always seem to

remember the personal preferences of returning guests!

We have stayed in a guesthouse room most years with a great view of the

waves rolling onto the beach, but from time to time spring for the amazing

Saco Bay Suite with its jacuzzi and incredible private deck over looking the beach.

For families, you can’t go wrong with the Studio apartments with two large beds,

kitchenette, and deck out the front and back door. This has been and will

be our Ocean Park home for many years to come!

Here’s a tip: off season rates are nice for Fall getaways.

Room Tip: All rooms face the ocean, so you can’t go wrong!

Another Wonderful Week at BillowHouse July 4, 2013

Mary and Judi are always so welcoming – with open arms. Each summer there are young housekeepers from around the world who are always so friendly and helpful. I love my room overlooking the ocean and sand dunes – and the balcony right outside my room. If I don’t feel like going to the beach I can sit on my balcony and read – a real treat. I enjoy walking to the pier at Old Orchard beach along the beach – about 1 1/2 miles. The challenge is to do it at low tide! I’ve made many friends over the years coming here and always feel at home in Ocean Park. It’s a step back in time – including an old time soda fountain right in the center of town. Mary always has wonderful goodies for our breakfast each morning. It is close to the highway where you can head either north or south to visit other places nearby. I look forward to a fall trip here.
