A Rare Find in this Busy World March 2013

The Billowhouse is a secret. Once you visit though, you will be treated like the best of family.
There are places to stay on the maine coast, but not like this place. This is a refuge for the mind, and rejuvenation of your spirit. If you want to stay as a couple, or scoop on of your kids or two (like I did) you can expect to enjoy a room in a real dollhouse with windows that pour in the sunshine facing the roar and sway of the Atlantic Ocean. Did you forget your cozy robe? There’s a white fluffy one waiting just for you! These are what you can expect from the Lighthouse and Oceanview rooms. Complete with coffee maker, fridge, and microwave. Cozy nook chairs to read in by the ocean, or catch up with your favorite movies, and some you haven’t seen. Judy has tons for you! If you are up for a stay that includes a kitchen- she has that too! The kids loved that, and there was access to the outside-on-the-deck jacuzzi! That is called Cape Elizabeth, Mom and Dad get a private sanctuary with a fireplace and the kids have cozy quarters on the other side with access to their own television/DVD, and -the fridge! Now if you want the King and Queens quarters, you will go upstairs to the top. In this luxury area is an apartment as close to heaven as I think you are going to get. There is a huge jet jacuzzi inside tub that you can see the ocean from, that leads to a huge master bedroom up two elegant stairs, the bed faces directly to see the ocean. The kitchen is updated, immaculate and modern, it even has a kitchen nook for family dinners, or time with friends. The space extends to daybeds and pull outs on brand new flooring. This spacious living area leads out to french door to the outside deck with chairs, a large BBQ and the crashing waves and white sands. Really? I told you? I would love to have kept it a secret forever- except I promised the dear owners that I would write something on their behalf- they are just too humble about this place!
If this was not enough, they serve a breakfast to wake up early for! There were pancakes! Quiches!, homemade gooey caramel nut covered bundt cakes, and muffins, and waffles, and bagels and bacon and eggs the way you want them and fruit and jams and coffee and juices and the breakfast gathering room you are eating in-faces the Ocean! Judy extends her incredible hospitality with beach chairs and towels and surfboards, really? Really! Oh and when you arrive she has warm, fresh baked cookies waiting for you in your room. I hope there is room for me to stay after I have written this review. YOU WILL ALWAYS GO BACK!!! Enjoy one of the many of God’s Blessings on this earth- The Billowhouse, and tell Judy I can’t wait to go back, Susan Martin and family

“You can’t go wrong. The Oceanview is pink, rosy and peachy, very feminine, cozy – a dream The Lighthouse is where I chose to stay with my husband, it was more nautical We stayed as a family of five in Cape Elizabeth- and we still dream about it! We are looking so forward to returning for many weekends and to finally stay in the Saco Bay Suite- par excellence in the summer. We haven’t got a chance to stay in any of the apartments on the ground floor, but they look adorable. We plan to go try one in June. Can’t say enough. The Billowhouse is nestled in a darling throw back community of nice people, excellent food, ice cream parlors, fun games and toys for kids and daily summer happenings. In any season we go up just to visit. There is always something wonderful there. God Bless and enjoy!” (136SusanM)

May there always be work for your hands to do;

May your purse always hold a coin or two;

May the sun always shine on your windowpane;

May a rainbow be certain to follow each rain;

May the hand of a friend always be near you;

May God fill your heart with gladness to cheer.

HAPPY ST. PATRICK’S DAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ocean Park’s first festival of Light’s and Illumination Night was celebrated in 1989.  It was started by Richard Burns, the Program Superintendent. He learned about it while attending a Chautauqua conference and decided to encourage Ocean Park to follow along with other Chautauqua communities around America. He discovered that Ocean Park many years ago did celebrate this event on a regular basis.

Owners and renters are encouraged to illuminate their places in a special way. Japanese lanterns, Christmas lights and luminaries are the many sources of lights which are used in very creative ways. BillowHouse was decorated with Maison jars filled with sand and tea lights.  The Maison jars had sand dollars and sea glass glued to the out side.  The tree in the dunes glowed with white lights.

Sunny Days in Ocean Park, Maine

Our guest have enjoyed 15 days of sunny blue skies for the last 15 days. With rain only coming in the evening.   One of our guest was even lucky enough to fine 20 Sand dollors  on an morning walk along the shore.  On Thursday evenings fire works can be seen from the beach in front of the BillowHouse and or by sitting on the decks.  A new tradition has been started here at the BillowHouse. Wednesday evenings is S’mores and decorate a shell night from 7:30 to 8:30 pm.  For many of our guest ( especially those from Canada) it is the first time they have experienced making and eating a S’more.

Educated Innkeepers April 25, 26 2012

The night before Mary and Judi were to attend an all day workshop in South Portland, Maine we headed out to Cape Elizabeth to have dinner at the Lobster Shake.  The seafood is great but the views of the ocean are even better.     The following morning we left BillowHouse at 8:30am to attend an all day seminar on Reputation Management & Discount Marketing.  We thought we knew a lot about Social Media, however we now know even more.  Yelp, Twitter, LinkedIn, and Trip Advisor. Not to mention ,Groupon and Living Social .   Be sure to come back to our blog to see how we have implemented all the knowledge we gained during this seminar.
